Review of Mafalda Figueiredo's self-referential paintings

We are delighted to announce that new paintings by Mafalda Figueiredo are now available via our website. View the full collection here.
The new 'blue' series is part of an evolving exploration of self-identity. Painting herself as the protagonist, Figueiredo's visual narratives look to dreams as an instrument of self-realisation. Surreal and allegorical, they emanate the obscurity associated with dreams whilst pivoting her own lived experience, where dreaming, wakefulness and introspection are equally present. Underpinned by her own naked body, Figueiredo's paintings challenge ideas of patriarchal norms, the societal gaze and femininity whilst referencing her own experience as a woman who has felt 'watched' for as long as she can remember.
In October, Figueiredo's beautiful paintings were reviewed by Munchies Art Club Magazine. To discover more about Figueiredo and her practice click on the link below.
