New Artist | Oran Wishart

Posted by Kim Soep on

We are delighted to welcome Oran Wishart to our roster of artists! Based in Lanarkshire, Scotland, Wishart is a graduate of Glasgow School of Art (GSA). A collection of fourteen small paintings by the artist are now available on our website together with three works featured in our current group show 'Heron' - view here - which marks his first online presentation with Broth Art.

Exploring the materiality of paint through layering, brushwork and washes, Wishart creates vivid and transportative worlds that springboard from the concretedness of paint towards the internal self. Alluding to literature, poetry, places and people, his paintings journey between figuration and abstraction. They draw on the artist's own sense of place, giving rise to a force that is felt more than it is seen.

Oran Wishart's 'Writer's Window' is an oil painting on paper on board. Abstract in style, the artwork, painted in varying shades of blue suggest a landscape, possibly a seascape. The top half of the artwork conveys open sky, which contrasts with the dark blues of the bottom section.

Wishart has exhibited work in the UK and abroad. Collaboration and correspondence form part of his wider working practice and he has completed residencies in Scotland and Iceland. His painting ‘Desert Solitaire’ was the cover artwork for Django Django’s album, 'Glowing in the Dark' in 2021 and his work is included in many private collection.

Oran Wishart's 'Steina and Woody' is an oil painting on paper on board. Abstracted forms suggest sky, sea and sand with a large semi-submerged rock. Colours include sky blue, grey and light yellow.
