Laura McMorrow ft Collective ^
Posted by Kim Soep on

Laura McMorrow is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Ireland who I have had the pleasure of working with since 2020. Aside from her own individual practice, McMorrow works collaboratively with ^ - a collective of four other artists (Tara Baoth Mooney, Shane Finan, James Kelly, and Sonya Swarte) who jointly engage in questions about land and ecology. Over the past three years, they have led events in response to environmental grief, care and tending to the land.
This weekend, ^ presents 'Waking the Land' at The Dock in Leitrim, which explores "meadows, untrodden ground, and forgotten growth in north Leitrim. In these liminal spaces, a succession of plants create worlds upon worlds, each one following the last. These worlds are an amalgam of the soil, the air, the fauna, and other unpredictable actors like humans. The way these places grow offer ways to think about working together" - (The Dock, 2020).
To mark the opening of ‘Waking the Land’, the collective will perform a ritual procession through Carrick-on-Shannon starting from The Dock on Saturday 22 November. This procession celebrates Benbo Mountain in Manorhamilton and the vast life it breathes into the surrounding landscape. It encourages participants to lament the mountain as if it was gone/lost to truly understand its place in both the land and local community.

Dates: 22 Nov 2025 – 14 Feb 2026
Opening hours: 10 am - 5 pm (closed bank holidays)
