Carol Douglas | Actually I Can
Posted by Kim Soep on
This year, Carol Douglas was invited by the Yorkshire Sculpture Park to present a solo exhibition of work. The show, called Actually I Can presents 51 paintings that are about the everyday, portraying household objects and people in domestic settings.
"This exhibition has encouraged me to revisit my back catalogue of work, drawing from and bringing together my favourite ideas from across my painting career thus far, putting it all together for one show. Having the opportunity to present in such a prestigious art venue is a joy and a privilege."
Douglas took up painting in her 60s after a career as a sociologist and community worker. Now in her 70s her work is sought after by collectors from around the world. Actually I Can is a tribute to her embarking on this new beginning. Having received acclaim for her accomplished painting style but also her inspirational story, Douglas was interviewed by both the Guardian and BBC. You can read the full article here.
