Lucy Gray

Lucy Gray has a BA in Fine Art Sculpture from the Central School of Art and Design (now Central St. Martins) in London.

Her practice explores self and its connection with the landscape. "In my work I translate an idea through natural forms, capturing the tipping point, the metamorphosis."

Living and working on the West Coast of Scotland, Gray's immediate environment is inseparable from her practice. Using jesmonite, metal leaf, coloured pigment as well as found natural material, Gray creates beautiful precious objects inspired by the wilderness around her.

Lucy Gray's 'Every Day I Find A Heart' is a mixed media sculpture comprising pigmented jesmonite and oil gilded palladium leaf. The piece is of a sculptural rendition of a hinged mussel shell mounted on a stone. The shell is open and resembles the shape of a heart. It reflects the moment her friend and fellow artist Fiona MacRae remarked on her days beachcombing and always finding hearts ie hinged mussel shells.
