'Doggerel', a word describing poetry that is irregular in rhythm and in rhyme, is on the surface a playful and visually exciting work - just as its name would suggest. At a glance, the colourful plastic pieces assimilate letters. The viewer is drawn in to decipher the coded message and, in doing so, each component comes into view - a clothes hanger, a pull, a washer, clips, hooks, flecks and fragments and more. Ocean plastic. For MacRae, 'Doggerel' is a visualisation of how out of rhythm we are with the world around us. It speaks to the irregular nature of plastic outnumbering fish in our seas, maiming and killing marine and birdlife and ultimately ending up in our own food chain.
