Daryl Rainbow

Daryl Rainbow is a “drawer" person based in Hackney, London. Born in the Philippines but raised in London, Daryl likes to create images based on his observations through living and growing up in London since the 1990’s. "In an age that is defined by the influence of the smart phone, the resurgence of Nike TN’s, the rise of the avocado and pop-up brioche bun/pulled pork stalls; I am equally irritated and delighted by the fickleness of modern London living. Themes of gentrification, technology and youth culture heavily fascinate my work"

He graduated from Camberwell College of the Arts, with a BA in Illustration. Since then he has also developed his work into the moving image and works for a GIF agency creating GIFs and short promotional animations using his limited, but functional 2D animation skills. He has also created an aesthetic that indulges his fascination for accidental and rough textures, bold colours and naive but thoughtful drawing.

Rainbow is currently working on ‘Still Life Featuring’ - an ongoing series of still life/digital illustrations based landmark albums from different artists; from Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade,’ to The Streets’ ‘Original Pirate Material.’  The still life set in the illustrations refer to lyrics and imagery from each album.

'Existential Grafitti'  is another continuing series of work by Daryl Rainbow. This is a digitally illustrated series. It depicts urbanised scenes and facades having been blessed with angst ridden, existential graffiti and addresses the "urban artists" unlikely insecurities.
